I've been playing around with Colton Rabon's Light Leak Kit. It adds an extra little touch to your photographs :)

Keri Smith.

I've decided I love Keri Smith!

I love her illustrative style and how she combines different elements to make up an image.

Taken from her website, kerismith.com:

She is the author of several bestselling books about creativity including the bestselling Wreck this Journal (2007 Perigee), How to be an Explorer of the World –the Portable Life/Art Museum, (2008 Perigee), The Guerilla Art Kit (2007 Princeton Architectural Press), Mess: A Manual of Accidents and Mistakes (2010 Perigee), Living Out Loud – Activities to Fuel a Creative Life (published 2003 by Chronicle Books), and Tear up this Book! :The Sticker, Stencil, Stationery, Games, Crafts, Doodle, And Journal Book For Girls!, (2005 American Girl). Her newest book, Finish this Book is out now, fall 2011 by Penguin Books. Keri spends her days playing with her husband and son, reading, cooking and writing books.

Lemon Juice Experiments.

I got my film back today that I'd soaked in lemon juice. I think it's safe to say, it was failure. I'd soaked the film, in it's canister, in lemon juice (from one of those lemon shaped bottles, I think it might have worked better in fresh lemon juice :S) for 3 hours (I meant to leave it for only 2 but I forgot about it) then rinsed it and put it in the airing cupboard for 3 days. The outer plastic had melted a little bit when I took it out so that can't have helped much either :s it then sat in room temperature for another day before I took it in to be developed.

Here's the annoying part - I also took in a disposable camera at the same time. I'd messed around with the lens and flash on this, but the film stayed completely dry. Or so I thought. I will admit to putting the camera and the film in a plastic bag together to carry them to the shop, but they weren't in there for long. Apparently it was long enough though, because from the 54 photos I should have got back, I only got 14 :( I also got a roll of negatives with nothing on them, so I don't know how the disposable messed up so much that nothing came out (unless the photos I did get back were from the disposable, which they may have been, I'm not entirely sure. Although now as I try to remember what was on each film it makes more sense for the ones that came back to have been from the disposable)

So here's what I did get back:

The little mark on this one annoys me because it would've been quite nice without it!

It just annoys me to think of the things I'd taken photos of that didn't come out; a trip to Cambridge, the most amazing christmas shop in Sudbury (too far to go back for) and the bridal flower section of a garden centre. I guess that's what you have to deal with when you experiment with film like this though! If I do try again at some point, I think I'll stick to generic shots!

Embroidery.

A couple of other things I've been working on today; embroidered quotes. This was just a practice one, but I really like how it turned out :)

I bought the pink frame from Perrywood, a lovely garden centre near where I live (I went to their Christmas shop yesterday, A-MAZING!) and that is what inspired me to design some of these of my own. Plus I already had the sewing stuff out from doing my handmade logo, which I'm getting bored of very quickly (it's so time consuming!), so I decided to make some of these in breaks between doing the logo. The little 'lovely' gingham heart was the first one I made, which I didn't quite measure out right but still looks ok I reckon :S

I'm going to get some more frames and sell them on my Folksy shop, Wishcatcher Crafts :)

Christmas Craft.

My mum ordered the book 'Christmas Crafting in No Time' by Clare Youngs, and it came today :)
There's so many adorable things in it I want to make, so along with all the stuff for mine and my sister's shop, Wishcatcher Crafts, I've got a pretty long to do list now!

Some of the crafty bits I really want to make:

The book, complete with post it notes on the pages of all the things I want to try :)

Felt owls, to continue my owl obsession :)

This twig reindeer is just so cute!

(Apologies for the terrible photos, I took them in a hurry!)

This book is definitely worth buying if you're into crafts, and very reasonably priced too.
