I'm a Student Again!

I've been thinking a lot lately about what I want to do with my life - the design thing wasn't working out and by not working in the field for a couple of years I'd lost interest in the subject. I knew I still wanted to do something creative though, and when my mum suggested Floristry it instantly appealed to me. Everyone I spoke to about it said that it was an area that would really suit me, so I decided to look into it a bit more. I then helped do the flowers at my brothers wedding and knew that it was what I wanted to do.

I found a course at Writtle College that I wanted to do but it would involve taking one day off a week at work and they weren't very keen on that idea. So I found another course, again at Writtle, that was in the evening. I don't think it's a formal enough course to be able to get a job off the back of, but I can apply for the first course again next year and hope work have a change of heart (or get a new job!)

The first session was last week, and the second tomorrow. The first subject matter is hand helds and arrangements, so I made this:

I actually found that I took to it really easily, and it felt natural. I was happy. I'm really excited about pursuing Floristry and really hope I have a better future as a result.

Competition Winning Cake Pops.

I know it's been a long, long time since I blogged properly but there's been some changes in my life and some exciting things coming up so I will be getting back to it. More on that later though....

I currently work in a large office and we hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning last Friday morning. We were asked to bake some cakes, then had a mini competition with the following categories:

- Most Inventive Cake
- Best Decorated Cake
- Best Tasting Cake

Guess which one I won..? Most Inventive Cake! I made cappuccino cake pops, which completely sold out by the end of the afternoon :) I was actually disappointed with them because I thought they looked messy (I'm a bit of a perfectionist) but everyone persuaded me otherwise and at least they were appreciated for the design of them!

Charity Posters.

It's been a while since I was asked to do some work for Action for Family Carers, a local charity that I volunteer for. However, they have asked me to design some posters for a club night, and here are the three initial ideas I sent over to them:

They're nothing too out there, it's only a small charity so simple works best. The wording was all provided so unfortunately I can't cut it down because it seems like quite a lot for a poster.

I've enjoyed doing design work again, I've kind of lost the drive to keep designing in my spare time. I'm constantly looking for jobs in design but I'm also lacking confidence in my ability and they don't make a good combination! I still have faith that I'll find the right role for me though, and that's what's important.
