You will see from my last few posts that I have started a floristry course. Well now I've also started a floristry blog! I'm going to upload my future creations from my course to the new blog so this one will go back to being forgotten, but I will try my best to keep an eye on it!

Floristry: Week 2.
Week 2 on my floristry course went just as well as week 1. This week was a hand tied, which is a technique I haven't tried before and is a little tricky at first but doesn't seem like it will take long to pick up.
This design has changed in the 4 days since I made it as the flowers are coming out more, and the colours are becoming more and more vibrant.
I also tried out out the technique at home with some roses and alstromeria:

I'm a Student Again!
I've been thinking a lot lately about what I want to do with my life - the design thing wasn't working out and by not working in the field for a couple of years I'd lost interest in the subject. I knew I still wanted to do something creative though, and when my mum suggested Floristry it instantly appealed to me. Everyone I spoke to about it said that it was an area that would really suit me, so I decided to look into it a bit more. I then helped do the flowers at my brothers wedding and knew that it was what I wanted to do.
I found a course at Writtle College that I wanted to do but it would involve taking one day off a week at work and they weren't very keen on that idea. So I found another course, again at Writtle, that was in the evening. I don't think it's a formal enough course to be able to get a job off the back of, but I can apply for the first course again next year and hope work have a change of heart (or get a new job!)
The first session was last week, and the second tomorrow. The first subject matter is hand helds and arrangements, so I made this:
I actually found that I took to it really easily, and it felt natural. I was happy. I'm really excited about pursuing Floristry and really hope I have a better future as a result.
